Minnesota Zoo welcomes a baby otter
A baby otter is the latest addition to the Minnesota Zoo.
Cedar — who is about 10 months old — was brought to her new habitat this week and is currently exploring and playing.
River otters are Minnesota’s largest aquatic carnivores and are skilled in hunting fish, according to the Minnesota DNR.
These playful animals often spend hours in the wild sliding down muddy or snow-packed stream banks. Because they are so good at getting food, they have less need to compete with each other and more time to play, a spokesperson for the Minnesota Zoo said.
Cedar will have access to both her public and behind-the-scenes habitat as she continues to adjust to her new home.
