A Minnesota State trooper was airlifted to hospital Tuesday after a crash in Fort Ripley Township.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Trooper Gregg Gerhartz and a Ford F-150 collided near the intersection of Highway 371 and County Road 2 at about 7:10 a.m. The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of the intersection. The State Patrol said Gerhartz wasn't responding to an emergency call and didn't have his emergency lights or siren activated at the time of the crash.

Both vehicles were significantly damaged in the crash.

Gerhartz was extricated from the squad and airlifted to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to the State Patrol.

The driver of the F-150, identified as 38-year-old Jeffrey Fink, of Little Falls, also suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatning but was not taken to a hospital.

The crash is still under investigation but impairment isn't believed to be a factor, the State Patrol said.
