Minnesota senator taken to hospital after medical incident during session

A Minnesota state senator suffered a medical incident on the senate floor on Tuesday and was taken to a hospital.

Sen. Lindsey Port, DFL-Burnsville, said Tuesday afternoon that she “experienced a medical situation that caused me to be taken to Region’s Hospital for a full and thorough examination,” adding that she’s OK and was expected to be discharged soon.

Live video of the session showed the Senate call for an abrupt, brief recess shortly before 1 p.m. to address a medical incident, although Port wasn’t specifically mentioned.

Port, who is in her first term after being elected in 2020, said she’s dealing with the effects of “Long COVID.” In her statement, the senator said doctors are still evaluating her to see if that is related to Tuesday’s incident.

“I want to thank the quick and professional action taken by my Senate colleagues, Senate staff, and the medical professionals who attended to me,” Port said.
