Minneapolis students hold walkout in response to Texas school shooting
Tuesday, dozens of Minneapolis students walked out in response to the recent mass shooting at a Texas elementary school.
Students were protesting what they called a lack of action on gun control measures, following the deadly shooting in Uvalde.
“Time and time again, youth are crying out and posting to social media and screaming awareness, but our administrators continue to ignore it,” Jerome Treadwell said. “The issue and the matter at hand is that when we see something we have to speak up. And they haven’t spoken up, which is why so many people are comfortable to bring weapons to schools.”
Students also called on legislative leaders to pass meaningful gun reform legislation. That was a state-wide call from the group Minnesota Teen Activists. Students from several districts are taking part in that push.
