The Minneapolis and St. Paul fire departments are having a friendly competition for a good cause.

The departments are holding a contest to see which can collect the most food donations. The food drive kicks off in March and will benefit the NorthPoint Community Food Shelf in Minneapolis and Hallie Q. Brown Food Shelf in St. Paul.

"We're very happy to be in a friendly competition with St. Paul Fire," said Bryan Tyner, assistant chief of the Minneapolis Fire Department. "It's a friendly competition. Whenever they call us, we're always happy to oblige and see if we can one-up them, so to speak, and that's what we plan on doing this year."

Non-perishable food items will be accepted at all Minneapolis and St. Paul fire department locations from March 1 to April 12.
