Married couple hit by car on Minneapolis crosswalk

A married couple in their 70s suffered potentially life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Minneapolis Saturday evening.

Minneapolis police say the driver, a woman in her 20s, was turning on 27th Avenue SE from University Avenue SE around 6:30 p.m. when she hit the man and woman, who were on the crosswalk.

The two pedestrians were taken to Hennepin Healthcare for their injuries.

The Minneapolis Police Traffic Unit is investigating the crash, according to an MPD spokesperson.

As of Sunday morning, police say impaired driving does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Officers say the driver was the only one inside the vehicle, and she is cooperating with investigators.

The intersection is just blocks away from the University of Minnesota’s Huntington Bank Stadium, where a game took place earlier in the day.
