Minneapolis Park Board votes to mend relationship with Minneapolis Police Department

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) plans to resume its relationship with the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) following a board vote Wednesday evening.

The board cut ties with MPD just nine days after George Floyd’s murder.

The MPRB moved to re-establish its relationship with MPD partly because of a shortage of staff and resources and challenges in providing policing services at public events.

At Wednesday’s MPRB meeting, the board voted 5-3 in favor of the resolution. One commissioner abstained from the vote.
