Maple Grove man gets 6 years for child porn

The acting U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Charles Kovats announced Wednesday that Uriel Adan Vasquez-Rios has been sentenced to 72 months in prison followed by ten years of supervised release after pleading guilty to receiving child pornography.

Vasquez-Rios, 29, was a student at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry from 2017 to 2020, which is when court documents say he “accessed websites depicting child pornography and downloaded a video depicting the sexual abuse of a minor.”

Authorities say that in his time at the dental school, Vasquez-Rios had access to children and created numerous social media accounts to solicit child pornography.

Vasquez-Rios pleaded guilty on May 11, 2021.

This case was part of the Project Safe Child initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006. More information can be found here.
