Maple Grove man charged with murdering wife
A 54-year-old man has been charged with a woman's murder after she was found dead earlier this week.
John Mitchell Wiseman is charged with one count of second-degree murder.
The victim was identified Friday night as 40-year-old Yang Liu.
Maple Grove police were called to the 8600 block of Quarles Road at about 4 p.m. Tuesday on the report of a woman unresponsive in a home. When officers arrived, they found Liu already dead and declared her death "suspicious." A criminal complaint states that Liu was Wiseman's wife.
According to the complaint, Liu had three gunshot wounds when officers arrived on scene, and a divot was found on the ground, indicating she was on her back when at least one of the shots was fired.

Officers found many valuable items in the home and no signs of forced entry or disarray. When talking to Wiseman, the complaint states he said he'd left to pick up his son from school at about 3 p.m. and his wife was alive and well. The complaint notes a Ring doorbell showed he left the home at 2:58 p.m. while school surveillance showed him picking up his son at 3:39 p.m. when the school is only a 12-minute drive away.
The complaint also states Wiseman has a smart garage, and logs showed he always closes it after leaving the home except for the day in question. His ex-wife allegedly told officers Wiseman has a gun and a conceal and carry permit. Witnesses also told police Wiseman and his wife had a volatile relationship characterized by disputes over money and infidelity. The complaint notes they own businesses and residences in several states.
It adds that one witness told police Wiseman wanted a divorce from Liu but didn't want to "split it 50/50" because he "earned this." Wiseman was later taken into custody.
His preliminary bail was set at $2 million and his first court appearance is scheduled for Monday.
