Man sentenced for charge stemming from Waseca County drive-by shooting
One of two men charged in connection to a drive-by shooting earlier this year near Janesville Bank learned his punishment Monday afternoon.
William Cornelius Terrel Peavy, 32, was sentenced to four years (48 months) at the St. Cloud Correctional Facility and given credit for 76 days already served.
Peavy entered a plea agreement in October, pleading guilty to one count of dangerous weapons – drive-by shooting toward an occupied motor vehicle or building. In exchange, documents state one count of attempting to commit first-degree murder and one count of aiding/abetting first-degree assault were dismissed.
As previously reported, the shooting happened in the area of Main Street and First Street just after 3 p.m. on July 26.

One person was shot and taken to a hospital by helicopter.
Callers reported seeing a dark-colored, four-door sedan with tinted windows drive away from the scene on Old Highway 14 toward Waseca. A short time later, authorities found a vehicle matching that description on the highway and stopped it.
A criminal complaint states additional officers were called and Peavy was arrested, as well as Devonte Bernard Phillips.

Once they were in custody, officers searched the vehicle they were in and found a knife and two handguns, the complaint states.
Witnesses told police that Peavy and Phillips pulled up next to the victim’s vehicle, Phillips fired several shots toward the victim, and they then fled. The victim’s vehicle slowly traveled southbound and then came to a stop against a building.
The complaint states that 29 separate bullet impacts were found in the victim’s vehicle. Additionally, casings from the scene matched the type of one of the guns found in the suspects’ vehicle.
Phillips’ next court hearing — a contested omnibus — is scheduled for the afternoon of Jan. 17.
