Man shot, injured near scene of burning residence near Bemidji; body later found inside

A body was recovered from a residential fire, and another person was wounded in a shooting nearby early Sunday morning just west of Bemidji.

According to a news release from the Beltrami County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to a report of gunshot wounds and a residential fire around 12:34 a.m. on the 11000 block of Trengrove Road Northwest in Grant Valley Township.

When deputies arrived, the building was fully engulfed in flames, and an adult male with gunshot wounds was found in a separate structure on the property.

The shooting victim was taken to Sanford-Bemidji Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. His condition is unknown, the sheriff's office said. His identity is currently being withheld.

A body was found inside the residence after the fire had been extinguished, according to the release. The victim's identity and cause of death are pending an investigation by the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office.

The investigation into the shooting and fire is ongoing.

The Bemidji Fire Department, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Minnesota State Patrol and Minnesota State Fire Marshal's Office all assisted in the response.
