The search is on for multiple suspects after a man in his 20s was shot and carjacked overnight in south Minneapolis.

It happened in an alley in the 3900 block of 11th Avenue South Thursday around 11:30 p.m.

“This was bad, I hope he lives,” said Dave Anderson, who lives nearby.

MPD says as many as five female and male suspects left the scene after the shooting in the man’s car and possibly another vehicle. Police describe the victim’s injuries as “potentially life-threatening.”

“They were up this alley here, and all of a sudden, they took off with the ambulance,” Anderson said.

Anderson heard some of the commotion from his place.

“I’ve lived here all my life and this is just too close now,” Anderson said.

The latest data from Minneapolis police shows just more than 250 reported carjackings citywide in 2024. That number is down from years past, but about on pace compared to last year.

“It’s just constant and it’s just sad because why don’t they go work for a living and buy their own, why do they have to carjack people?” Anderson said.

Police are still working to learn more about what led up to the shooting and carjacking and haven’t made any arrests.
