Man sentenced to nearly 6 years in prison for Moorhead bank robbery

A West Virginia man was sentenced Tuesday to nearly six years in prison for robbing a Moorhead bank.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said 53-year-old Robert Vaughn Evans was sentenced to 70 months in prison and three years of supervised release.

Court documents state that Vaughn entered Gate City Bank on May 1, 2019, and handed a bank teller a note that said, "I have a gun." After the teller retrieved the money and gave it to Evans, he ran away.

Evans also admitted to robbing Key Bank in Niagara Falls, New York, on Feb. 13, 2019, court documents state.

As part of his sentence, Evans has to repay the money he got away with to the banks.

He was captured in Ohio in October 2019.
