Man sentenced for St. Paul arsons after George Floyd’s death
A Rochester man has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison for intentionally starting fires at multiple buildings in St. Paul following the death of George Floyd.
Jose Angel Felan, Jr., 36, was sentenced Tuesday to 78 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $39,028 in restitution.
Prosecutors say Felan set fire to a Goodwill store, Gordon Parks High School and a 7 Mile Sportswear store along University Avenue on May 28, 2020. He and his wife, co-defendant Mena Dhaya Yousif, then fled to Mexico.
They were found and arrested by Mexican immigration authorities in February 2021 and returned to the U.S.
