Man sentenced after 2020 standoff in Duluth

A Duluth man has been sentenced to prison for illegal gun possession after a 2020 standoff with police.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 40-year-old Jesse William Peterson was sentenced Wednesday to nearly eight years (95 months) in prison for illegal firearm possession due to prior felony convictions.

Prosecutors say Duluth police tried to arrest Peterson at a home on Oct. 25, 2020, but he refused to comply and fired shots at officers. After a two-hour standoff, he was taken into custody, and officers found a loaded .38-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver in the home.

Tests showed Peterson’s DNA on the gun, and officers also found more than 13 grams of meth, 11 grams of cocaine, 38 doses of LSD and over $5,800 in cash, according to the attorney’s office.
