Man killed in snowmobile crash in Zimmerman

A man died Saturday night when the snowmobile he was driving crashed north of the Twin Cities metro.

The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office says it happened at around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Fremont Avenue and 13th Street West in Zimmerman.

Authorities say 52-year-old David E. Stewart was headed east in the ditch along Fremont Avenue when his snowmobile hit a driveway approach, became airborne and then rolled.

The sheriff’s office says Stewart wasn’t wearing a helmet and died at the scene.
