Man killed in shooting near George Floyd memorial identified

The man who died after a shooting in south Minneapolis near George Floyd Square on Saturday has been identified.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as 30-year-old Imaz Patrick Wright. His cause of death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds and his manner of death was ruled as a homicide.

Minneapolis Police said officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation near 38th Street East and Chicago Avenue South at 5:45 p.m. By the time officers arrived, the two victims had already been taken to a hospital. One of the victims later died.

Early information indicated the victim had gotten into an argument with the suspect that escalated to gunfire. The suspect fled the scene in what was described as a light or cream-colored 2005 to 2016 model year Chevrolet Suburban.

Two arrests have been made in connection to this shooting.
