Man injured, arrested in St. Cloud altercation that led to shooting
A 39-year-old St. Cloud man has been arrested in connection to an altercation that led to a shooting.
St. Cloud police say officers were called Friday afternoon to the 1200 block of East St. Germain on the report of a man who was inside a building threatening residents with a gun.
The suspect, later identified as Michael Anton Walton, fled the scene before officers arrived.
Police were called later that night to the same location after receiving reports of shots fired in the hallway of the apartment complex.
According to the police, a 24-year-old man was at the apartment building helping his family who had been threatened by Walton earlier in the day.
Walton returned and saw the man in the hallway and fired several shots at him. The man "returned fire in self-defense" and hit Walton, according to police.
Police say the man who fired the weapon is cooperating with the investigation.
Walton fled the area but was later arrested by officers nearby. He was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
He was later transported to the Benton County Jail where he is being held on two counts of second-degree assault and one count of threats of violence.
