Man hit, killed by pickup truck while standing on highway shoulder after vehicle goes into ditch

Authorities say a Maple Lake man whose car had gone into a ditch was killed early Tuesday evening after being hit by a vehicle while he was standing on a highway shoulder.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a southbound Ford F-150 on Highway 24 approached a Chrysler Cirrus that was in the west ditch around 7:15 p.m.

The agency’s incident report states the Ford truck hit the driver of the Chrysler while he was standing on the right shoulder.

The driver of the Chrysler, identified as 36-year-old Scott Hollencamp of Maple Lake, died at the scene.

Authorities say the 34-year-old Kimball man driving the Ford F-150 wasn’t injured during the crash.

Roads were listed as being covered in snow and ice at the time, according to the report.
