Man charged in fatal north Minneapolis hit-and-run
A 54-year-old man has been charged in connection to a fatal hit-and-run that happened Thursday in north Minneapolis.
The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office says Henry Lee Brown has been charged with two counts of criminal vehicular homicide in the death of 49-year-old Jerry L. Johnson.
According to a criminal complaint, Johnson was crossing the street at 40th and Morgan avenues when he was struck by an SUV, which fled the scene. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.
A woman who lives nearby the area where the crash took place told police she passed by the intersection after the crash and saw someone lying in the street.
The complaint says when she got home, she found her boyfriend, later identified as Brown, sitting in the driver’s seat of her Ford Edge.
The woman said Brown told her he had hit something with her car.
The woman called police the next day after seeing reports about the crash. According to the complaint, Brown said he had been drinking alcohol but didn’t remember hitting anyone.
