Man arrested after 7-hour standoff in Duluth

A man was arrested Friday night after a standoff that lasted around seven hours.

According to Duluth Police, officers responded to a report of a 30-year-old man involved in an attempted bank robbery, car theft and vehicle pursuit through Duluth and surrounding cities at about 12:30 p.m.

About an hour later, officers responded to reports that the same person was armed and dangerous and had barricaded himself in an apartment building on Central Avenue. Police said the suspect also fired multiple shots inside the building.

Officers negotiated with the man and, after multiple attempts to get him to surrender peacefully, police said officers used non-lethal tactics to gain compliance. The man then surrendered at about 8:30 p.m. and was taken into custody.

The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries and then moved to the St. Louis County jail.

Police said nobody was injured in the incident.

An investigation remains active.
