Man allegedly shot woman in St. Paul 2 weeks after getting out of prison

A St. Paul Park man who officials say absconded from supervised release after getting out of prison earlier this month is now charged with attempted murder.

Monday, Ramsey County prosecutors issued a warrant charging 29-year-old Jeremy Jyrone White with attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault. Both charges carry maximum sentences of 20 years, and the assault charge could also include a $30,000 fine.

Court documents and state officials say White was released from the Minnesota Department of Corrections’ Faribault facility to intensive supervised release on Oct. 4. He then cut off his GPS bracelet and absconded on Oct. 15. The DOC says his agent reported him in violation of his release and a warrant was then issued for his arrest.

Just four days later, he allegedly shot a woman near Sims Avenue and North Frank Street, which is in St. Paul’s Payne-Phalen community.

According to a criminal complaint, officers went to the area around 3:45 a.m. on Oct. 19 after a 911 caller reported a man and woman arguing in front of her home. The caller told police the man had hit the woman with an unknown object; then, when the two were out of the caller’s sight, a gunshot was fired.

Officers found the victim with a bloody face and a hole in her lower jaw, the complaint states. The woman used a pen and notepad to tell police that White, who she was in a relationship with, shot her before fleeing in a gray Nissan sedan.

The victim said the only reason she could think of as to why White would’ve shot her is that he “had been up for 4-5 days doing cocaine,” the complaint states.

White, who has prior convictions for aggravated robbery and ineligible gun possession, had been serving time for a weapons possession charge from 2017.

As of Monday night, he wasn’t yet in custody.
