Lowry Bridge to be illuminated in various school colors to honor high school grads

The Lowry Bridge in Minneapolis will be lit in different colors from May 29 through June 9 to honor this year's graduates in the midst of COVID-19.

According to a release Wednesday, officials with Hennepin County and Minneapolis Public Schools have teamed up to develop a schedule for the bridge to be illuminated in each school's colors.

The schedule is as follows:

  • May 29 – Edison High School (blue and gold)
  • May 30 – North High School (blue and white)
  • May 31 – Patrick Henry High School (red and white)
  • June 1 – FAIR High School (maroon, black and white)
  • June 2 – Heritage High School (green and gold)
  • June 3 – Longfellow High School (black and gold)
  • June 4 – Roosevelt High School (maroon and gold)
  • June 5 – South High School (black and orange)
  • June 6 – Southwest High School (white and purple)
  • June 7 – Transition Plus High School (blue, white and gold)
  • June 8 – Wasburn High School (blue and orange)
  • June 9 – Wellstone High School (green and white)

"Even though we can't recognize them in the way we'd planned, the Class of 2020 will have a special place in history," Minneapolis Public Schools Superintendent Ed Graff said in a statement. "We're very grateful to Hennepin County for honoring the graduates and their accomplishments in this way."

According to officials, students and their families are invited to take photos of the bridge, provided they maintain social distancing. Officials said the best locations for photos are Marshall Terrace Park, Edgewater Park, Gluek Park, the 42nd Avenue North Bridge and the Broadway Street Northeast Bridge.
