Low humidity, wind gusts expected to create conditions for fire spread

An alert is in effect until 7 p.m. Friday due to near-critical fire weather conditions reported in parts of central Minnesota.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the alert, which states the combination of low humidity and wind gusts are contributing factors.

Afternoon humidities are expected to fall to near 25% and northwest winds up to 15 mph, plus gusts up to 25 mph, are expected.

The NWS states those conditions could promote the rapid spread of fire and as a result, says outdoor burning is not recommended.

The alert covers Benton, Douglas, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pope, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd and Wright counties.
