Lightning strike causes small house fire in Douglas County

A small fire under a house was caused by a lightning strike Sunday morning, according to Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 7 a.m., officers received a 911 call from 1000 block of Trisco Cove Court SE reporting smoke inside the home.

All residents were able to evacuate the home safely and were all uninjured.

The Osakis Fire Department (OFD) responded to help and found smoke and a small fire coming from the crawlspace under the home. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire with little to no structural damage to the house.

According to OFD, the preliminary investigation suggest a lightning strike caused it.
