Life Time to lay off 300 employees between headquarters, Chaska facilities

Life Time is planning to lay off 301 employees in Minnesota, according to notices sent to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).

The notices say the layoffs will be permanent and will affect 51 employees at the company's Millwork facilities in Chaska and 250 employees at its headquarters in Chanhassen.

All layoffs will happen on Aug. 18, according to the filing.

Life Time blamed shutdowns related to COVID-19 as the reason for the layoffs, stating in the filing, "The tremendous financial impact created by the extended shutdown, combined with operational expense obligations that continued through this time, no clear line of sight as to when member traffic levels will return to normal and the need to half nearly four years of in-progress new club development activity, has resulted in an unforeseen, significant impact to the business."
