Lakeville Police: Model rocket launch started grass fire

Authorities say what was supposed to be a fun activity Thursday afternoon led to trouble.

Lakeville Police say a model rocket launch — coupled with dry, windy conditions — apparently led to a fire.

Police and fire crews were called to the area near the baseball fields by North Trail Elementary School just before 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Fortunately, firefighters arrived quickly and contained the fire to just the grassy area, and no other property was damaged.

The fire department has a station just over a mile away from the school, which is located just off of Pilot Knob Road and 170th Street West, and allowed for the quick response.

While no injuries were reported, police say it’s a good reminder to be careful when conditions are dry and windy.
