Iowa man pleads guilty to cyberstalking Minnesota victim

An Iowa man has pleaded guilty to stalking a Minnesota victim through Facebook and mail.

According to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, 57-year-old Michael Shawn McGuire, of Cresco, Iowa, pleaded guilty to four counts of cyberstalking.

The sheriff’s office said, at the plea hearing, McGuire harassed and intimidated the victim on Facebook and through mail, causing the victim substantial emotional distress.

Between Aug. 25, 2018 and May 25, 2019, McGuire placed numerous yard signs at the victim’s home, the sheriff’s office said. The signs were sexually explicit and contained the victim’s name, phone number, address and email address. He also sent pictures of the victim to the victim’s family, friends and associates through the mail and Facebook, and created various dating profiles of the victim.

McGuire remains in custody.

A sentencing date will be set at a later time.
