Investigation of Becker recycling plant fire continues

The state fire marshal's office continues to investigate what caused last week's fire at Northern Metal Recycling in Becker.

On Monday, the Becker Police Department issued an update stating all outside agencies have left the recycling property. The scene has been turned back over to the company, according to police.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will continue monitoring stormwater contained on-site and will work with the company and local officials to assess potential environmental impacts and planning for cleanup.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) also will ensure the company fulfills the requirements of an administrative order issued last week before the company can resume operations.

The MPCA intends to continue air monitoring for particulates for the time being, according to a news release.
