A drive-thru grocery pick-up service in Shakopee is providing people with free food in their time of need.

A coalition of individuals, businesses, community organizations and regional governments put the service together.

"Folks that need food and need help and need assistance are still coming because they still have rent to make, they still have mortgage payments to make," said Rep. Brad Tabke, DFL-Shakopee. "Any pressure we can take off them is really good for them and their families."

Organizers say they have served hundreds of families each weekend since they started four weeks ago.

Groceries are available each Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at New Creations Church in Shakopee.
