Honduran man who faced deportation given 6-month extension

A Honduran man living in St. Paul who was facing deportation has been granted a six-month extension, according to his attorney.

Immigration officials took Armando Enriquez into custody in January after saying he is in the country illegally. Since then, Enriquez has received an outpouring of community support and a boost from Minnesota politicians as they fight for him to stay while his 6-year-old child undergoes treatment for a rare genetic disorder.

St. Paul community rallies around father facing deportation

St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, who attended a prayer service for Enriquez, is among those supporters. 

"We are very pleased that Mr. Enriquez is back at home with his family," Carter said in a statement. "His safe return brings hope to so many in our community who supported efforts to get him home.

Although Enriquez has been given more time to be with his family in the United States, he will still be up for deportation once the extension expires.
