Highway 61 under construction north and south of metro this weekend
If you’re planning to use Highway 61 this weekend, don’t be too surprised by all the construction cones along the way.
Earlier this week, Highway 61 closed between Forest Lake and Wyoming as part of a resurfacing project. While local access will be maintained for residents and businesses, everyone else will be detoured to Interstate 35. The roadway will reopen by July 19, with the entire project wrapping up late this summer.
If you’re headed south of the Twin Cities, watch for a lane restriction near Kellogg, Minnesota. The work is on the northbound side of Highway 61 about a mile south of Kellogg. The good news is all lanes will be reopening sooner than later, by July 1.
And an update on a striping project along Interstate 35. About 15 miles of pavement will be restriped between Elko/New Market and Faribault starting next week. Although lanes are expected to stay open this weekend, the roadway will go down to one lane in both directions next week. The project is expected to be completed in late July.
