Gunshots report leads to pursuit, crash, 2 arrests in Anoka County

A report of shots fired led to a pursuit, crash and two people being arrested Wednesday afternoon in Anoka County.

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a report of shots fired toward motorcyclists near Lexington Avenue Northeast and Constance Boulevard in Ham Lake around 1:47 p.m.

A short time later, deputies, along with Blaine and Coon Rapids police officers, found the suspect vehicle — a BMW sedan — and tried to stop it. However, it fled and a pursuit was initiated.

The sheriff’s office says during the pursuit, the BMW drove the wrong way on State Highway 65 and U.S. Highway 10. Eventually, it hit a sheriff’s office squad car and then crashed into a tree near Jefferson Street Northeast and 91st Avenue in Blaine.

The male driver and female passenger were taken into custody. The passenger was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, the sheriff’s office says.

Authorities say none of the motorcyclists were injured, nor was the deputy driving the squad that was hit by the BMW.

The investigation remains active.
