Groundbreaking event to be held Tuesday for Graco Park in Northeast Minneapolis

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held for the newest park in Minneapolis Tuesday afternoon.

The newest park will be located next to the Plymouth Avenue Bridge and will be nine acres in size. It will include a restored wildlife habitat, upgraded trail connections and intersection safety improvements.

There will also be a geothermal snowmelt system, according to the Minneapolis Parks Department.

The park is scheduled to be open in fall 2024, however, a new park building and trail underpass connection to Boom Island Park will open in the fall of 2025.

Tuesday’s groundbreaking ceremony will begin at 1 p.m.

The event was moved from Aug. 14 due to rain.
