Gas line catches fire after suspected lightning strike in St. Paul

A natural gas line caught fire from a suspected lightning strike Saturday morning, according to the St. Paul Fire Department.

The St. Paul Fire Department said in a Tweet that firefighters were dealing with an active natural gas fire at the intersection of Brainer Avenue and Burr Street just after 10:30 a.m.

Firefighters say they evacuated nearby buildings but the street fire did not reach the nearby homes.

Xcel Energy crews then shut the gas lines and the fire was extinguished.
