Fire that heavily damaged Red Lake Reservation landmark ruled as arson

A fire that heavily damaged a landmark on the Red Lake Reservation has been ruled as arson.

Tribal Chairman Darrell Seki confirmed to WDAY that the Pow Wow Arena fire is being investigated as arson but no arrests had been made as of Wednesday afternoon, to his knowledge.

Seki added four people are responsible for setting the fire.

The flames caused extensive damage to the area where speakers and elders sit. The cost to fix that damage is still unclear.

All events at the arena had been canceled for the rest of the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
