The weather in Minnesota is quickly getting colder, meaning lots of residents will soon be turning on their furnaces.
Coon Rapids firefighters tell KSTP now is a good time to make sure your family has a fire plan in place, which goes along with this year’s theme for Fire Prevention Month-“Don’t Wait, Plan Your Escape.”
One important part of a fire plan is a meeting spot- a place for the family to meet and make sure everybody is accounted for, fire officials said.
Fire officials offered additional tips for fire prevention:
- Make sure you have working smoke detectors in every room.
- Heading into winter, now is a good time to replace smoke detector batteries.
- Make sure to have a working carbon monoxide detector on each floor of your home.
More information can be found in KSTP’s full report in the video above.
