7 displaced by fire at North End neighborhood home

Fire damages home in St. Paul

Heavy smoke was coming from a home near Jackson Street around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities say a fire at a North End St. Paul home displaced seven people late Tuesday night.

The St. Paul Fire Department says crews were called to a home on Jessamine Avenue near Jackson Street, shortly before 11:30 p.m. There, firefighters found a basement fire that had extended to the first and second floors.

The people inside awoke to smoke in the basement and flames in the corner of the basement bedroom they were in, according to the fire department.

They were able to safely get out and call 911. However, the department says all seven — two adults and five children — were displaced by the fire.

No injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation but officials say initial information suggests an accidental fire caused by an electrical issue.
