Federal meth trafficking charges for Lino Lakes man
On Tuesday Andrew Luger, U.S. Attorney for Minnesota, announced federal methamphetamine trafficking charges against a 24-year-old Lino Lakes man.
Jose Angel Chapa-Aguilera faces several charges, including two counts of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and four firearms-related charges.
Authorities say the charges stem from a December 2021 “kidnapping and torture” incident where Chapa-Aguilera allegedly pointed a gun at a Brooklyn Park man before tying up and torturing him over a drug debt.
Court documents say that the victim of that assault suffered extensive injuries that included broken bones, burns and cuts to the face that caused him to need a blood transfusion.
Following the Brooklyn Park incident authorities conducted a search warrant of Chapa-Aguilera’s residence and recovered methamphetamine.
Chapa-Aguilera had a firearm in his possession when he was arrested in January of this year.
Charging documents state that Chapa-Aguilera has previously been convicted of a felony in Anoka County, and is charged in Hennepin County with first-degree assault and kidnapping.
Chapa-Aguilera will remain in federal custody pending further court proceedings.
