Federal jury convicts Minneapolis man for illegal firearms possession

Wednesday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Minnesota announced that a Minneapolis man has been convicted on one count of possessing a firearm as a felon.

The conviction stems from a July 2020 incident. During that incident, according to trial evidence, St. Paul police officers found 38-year-old Demetrius Demarco Spencer “wrestling his girlfriend.” Officers were able to “intervene in the struggle” and detain Spencer.

Authorities reported a Kahr PM9 handgun was found on the floor next to Spencer.

According to the attorney’s office, Spencer has multiple prior felonies, including convictions in Hennepin and Ramsey counties, as well as a prior federal conviction.

His sentencing date has yet to be set.
