Facebook fundraiser 'Help Save The Minnesota Zoo' surpasses $43K
A fundraiser started on Facebook to help raise funds for the Minnesota Zoo has surpassed $43,000 as of Wednesday.
Help Save The Minnesota Zoo was created by Nick Anderson. He said, as of Wednesday morning, about 1,100 donors have contributed to the cause.
The Minnesota Zoo has been extremely low on funds due to a forced closure for COVID-19 reasons. The zoo was forced to lay off some employees and cut pay. There is a chance that the zoo may close permanently at the end of the month due to funding issues.
According to a zoo spokesperson, the zoo is projected to lose roughly $15 million during a two-year period. The proposed $6 million from the state legislature would replace roughly 40% of that projected loss, the spokesperson said.
The fundraiser's goal is set for $100,000.
