Driver of stolen vehicle arrested after crashing into other vehicles, West St. Paul pond
Police say one person is facing multiple charges in Dakota County after allegedly stealing a Hastings vehicle and crashing it into another vehicle before landing in a pond Wednesday afternoon in West St. Paul.
According to West St. Paul police, multiple calls came in around 12:40 p.m. regarding a person operating a white van driving recklessly throughout Inver Grove Heights and Eagan.
Despite officers’ efforts to stop the vehicle, the driver got away, and was last seen in the area of Robert and 80th streets. Eventually, police in West St. Paul tried to stop the vehicle at two locations, but the driver was able to get around the tire deflation devices.
The driver then made his way to the ramp from Thompson Avenue to northbound Highway 52, where the driver hit another vehicle and a West St. Paul police squad before going off the road and into a pond.
Police also learned the vehicle had been stolen in Hastings earlier in the day Wednesday.
The driver of the stolen vehicle, identified only as being a male, was taken to an area hospital for injuries not considered to be life-threatening. Police add there were multiple warrants out for his arrest regarding burglary, fleeing police in a motor vehicle, theft, reckless driving, receiving stolen property and others.
A woman who was in the vehicle hit by the male was also taken to an area hospital for injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
Multiple agencies are involved in the investigations. Police say the male will be brought to the Dakota County Jail after being treated at the hospital for his injuries.
