DPS: All 14 businesses warned about COVID violations now in compliance

Authorities say more than a dozen businesses that were warned last month about COVID-19 violations are now in compliance.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety said Thursday that all 14 bars and restaurants that were given warning letters for violating Gov. Tim Walz’s Executive Order 20-74 are now in compliance.

According to DPS, Alcohol and Gambling Enforcement division agents and law enforcement surveilled 919 restaurants from July 4-13 looking for violations of the order. Ten warning letters were sent to businesses that violated all three points of emphasis (mask requirements, social distancing, capacity restrictions). Another four letters were sent to businesses on June 26.

"We are grateful to those establishments who are working hard to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 by following a few simple guidelines," said DPS Assistant Commissioner Booker Hodges. "We can all do our part to help keep our businesses safe by wearing a mask, social distancing and adhering to establishment seating limits."

DPS said the goal is to educate and provide guidance to businesses before taking enforcement action, and no other warnings beyond those 14 have been issued. However, it continues to receive complaints about businesses.
