Dam break prompts flash flood warning in Sawyer County

A dam break prompted a flash flood warning for Sawyer County, Wisconsin, Wednesday night.

The Sawyer County Sheriff's Office told ABC affiliate WDIO that a dam on the Moquito Brook Flowage failed. It happened in the Town of Lenroot, which is about 4 miles northeast of Hayward.

Water ran over Porky's Road and headed toward Mosquito Brook Springs and Mosquito Brook Road, authorities said.

Eight homeowners were stranded and the flood was about 100 feet wide and 2 feet deep, WDIO reported, citing the Sawyer County Record.

Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, the Hayward area got about 2.25 inches of rain.
