Crews recover body from Mississippi River in St. Paul
Crews recovered the body of a man who was swept into the Mississippi River with a group of friends Sunday in St. Paul.
According to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, Around 12:48 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to the Marshall Avenue Bridge on a report of five adults who were exploring tunnels when a thunderstorm hit. Two members of the group were able to get out of the tunnel, while three were washed into the river.
The Minneapolis Fire Department rescued four of the adults and turned them over to the St. Paul Police Department. The fifth was not found and was presumed to be in the river. Deputies with the Ramsey County Water Patrol and Minneapolis firefighters searched the river until just before 4 a.m. but could not find the person.
The search resumed Sunday morning around 7 a.m., and after about four hours, deputies recovered the male victim’s body from the water near the Marshall Street bridge.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s name in the coming days.
The Ramsey County Water Patrol and the St. Paul Police Department are investigating the incident.
