According to Cottage Grove police, first responders were called to the 8400 block of East Point Douglas Road just after 1 a.m. Friday for a report of a crash. When crews arrived, they found an overturned vehicle that was on fire, and was against a tree.

After putting the flames out, police say firefighters found the driver, identified as a 27-year-old St. Louis Park man, dead inside of the vehicle. His name is expected to be released later on Friday. In addition, a 33-year-old Cottage Grove man was found outside of the vehicle. He was taken to Woodwinds Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Although the cause of the crash is still being investigated, police say speed and alcohol are believed to be factors. According to police, the vehicle was headed south on East Point Douglas Road and missed a curve, where it then hit a tree.
