City officials in Cottage Grove say they are working to repair a power failure at a water system computer.

Tuesday morning, officials said the failure stopped communications of the water system, which then prevented wells from filling the water towers. That then caused low pressure in parts of the city.

Both state and city officials say the tap water in Cottage Grove is safe to drink, but ask that residents don’t water lawns or gardens, or use irrigation systems, until 8 a.m. Wednesday. City officials say the water tower tanks will need to be refilled during this time.

If you have discolored water, officials say you should run cold water in your faucets until it runs clear.
