Cottage Grove man sentenced to prison for bank robbery

A Cottage Grove man was sentenced to 57 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to bank robbery in March.

Court documents state that in November 2021, 43-year-old Michael Thomas Prall used force, violence and intimidation to steal thousands of dollars from three separate banks.

The news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office states that on Nov. 30, 2021 Prall entered a Wells Fargo bank in Cottage Grove and threatened to shoot the teller or someone else in the bank if the teller did not do as he asked.

The teller complied with the demand and Prall fled on foot. Law enforcement then located and arrested Prall following a short foot chase.

The news release also states Prall was responsible for a bank robbery on Nov. 5, 2021 at a U.S. Bank in Bloomington where he reportedly stole $2,558 and a robbery on Nov. 19, 2021 where he stole approximately $4,589 from a Bremer Bank in Woodbury.

He pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery on March 22.
