Como Zoo welcomes newborn zebra

The Como Zoo in St. Paul has announced that one of their Grant’s Zebras, “Minnie,” gave birth to a foal Tuesday morning.

The zoo says that when zookeepers arrived Tuesday morning, they found the foal strong and walking around the enclosure closely shadowing its mom.

Senior zookeeper Jill Erzar said, “there were no complications, and mother and baby appear to be doing great.”

The new zebra’s name will be chosen as part of the Como Quest event at the zoo in June.

Minnie and her new baby can be viewed in the Zebra and Kudu exhibit daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Como Zoo’s zebras are part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan breeding population that coordinates the breeding of zoo animals across the world.
