Co-op employee trapped in Steele County grain bin dies
A man died Thursday night after getting trapped in a grain bin in southern Minnesota.
The Steele County Sheriff’s Office says emergency personnel from several agencies were called to Crystal Valley Grain Terminal in Hope at around 9:15 p.m. on a report of an employee trapped in a grain bin.
Crews worked to rescue the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s office identified the employee as 36-year-old Paul Jasper Frantum, of Pemberton.
Crystal Valley said Frantum was loading a train when he got trapped in the bin.
The cooperative decided to remain closed on Friday.
“Crystal Valley extends their heartfelt appreciation to the emergency services and volunteers on site. Our deepest condolences go out to the employee’s family and friends,” the cooperative said in a social media post.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
